For our booth, we have selected different but complementary types of works by the artist, which represent the essence of Alex Hanimann's work.

Alex Hanimann has created a series of ink on paper depicting historical events based on a collection of newspaper clippings from the 1960s and 1970s, using the same printing raster, but enlarged to the scale of an historical painting.

We have selected a set of collages that the artist has drawn freehand or with the help of guiding utensils, on which alliterations, anaphoras or psittacisms of language appear. Written in German, French or English, these texts play with both visual and semantic compositions, some of which are reminiscent of a form of concrete poetry. But what should we do with language if it exhausts meaning, Hanimann seems to tell us.

Whether typed, printed or drawn, these proposals function as a set of lists, which the artist then mounts on different papers, successively superimposing different layers and accentuating the complex character of the proposal. Different subjects are evoked, such as love, disappearance and, more generally, coercion...

Alex Hanimann was born in 1955 in Switzerland where he lives and works. His work integrates both image and language through drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures. His work sets up a serial process of reproduction and repetition, integrating different formal or syntactic variations, which question the wanderings between a form of reality, its statement and/or its representation.
