For a fighter pilot, the ejection seat is the last resort in the face of imminent death. Ejecting is a rare, sometimes traumatic event.
Martin-Baker, the oldest British manufacturer of ejection seats, founded the Tie Club in 1929 to unify the community of ejected pilots. Each year, during an inducting ceremony, a tie is given to new members, symbolizing their new life after ejection and their permanent membership in the Tie Club.
As of March 2026, the Martin-Baker Ejection Tie Club has 7,812 members.
The variable durations of the videos correspond to the durations of the ejection as experienced by each pilot. That moment of suspension outside the aircraft, between sky and earth, between life and death, where the actual timing matters less than the perceived time.
Some pilots appear as many times as they have escaped death.
